The events on September 11th happened when you were just toddlers, but many older people vividly recall the terrorist attacks. Personal experiences can teach history better than any textbook page. Conduct an interview with someone who lived through the events, and post your written summary, video clips, or other web-based projects here.

September 11 interview Victoria c. (a.k.a. Weston's mommy)
when the 911 attack happened i was driving to work and heard about it on the radio. i was very scared and sad and it made me appreciate life more and it made me realize you need to live for today because you never know what tommorow may bring. I think it made people really think about their lives and began treating each other better. when the attack happened the president gave a speech about our country and what we were going to do to move forward from the attacks. I did not know anyone personally who were effected but i think everybody in the U.S. were effected. Since the attack i have learned to be thankful everyday for everything and not take anything for granted. Weston C.

When 9-11 happened my mom was at home watching the news. I was only 2 at the time and I was sick, thats why we were at home. My mom was shocked, she couldn't understand what had happened. My mom thought at first that there was something wrong with the pilot. That maybe the pilot had taken a wrong turn by accident. But, when the second plane hit the second tower my mom understood. She understood that this was a terrorist attack. My mom kept on watching the news wondering what would happen next. Then, about 30-45 minutes the first tower collapsed. And shortly after that the second tower collapsed also. I remember when we went to New York a few years ago we saw that people were still cleaning up the remains of the buildings. Monika R

September 11 Interview Carolyn F. (Charnece's Aunt)
When 9.11 happened my aunt was standing at the coffee shop in California. She was talking to her friend and a man went up to her and asked her did she hear about the twin towers. She asked what happened and when he explained she thought he was crazy. I was two at the time with my mom in North Carolina. When she finished her morning coffee she went to work and saw it wasn't as busy as usual. The TVs were on and she said the second plane crash into one of the twin towers. While she continued to watch the fall of the twin towers, she saw a caption on the television that said about 3,051 children lost their parents in the 9.11 terrorists attack. She told me that she learned that each day you need to talk to your family and tell them you love them because you never know what the day will bring.
Charnece R.

Interview With My Dad!
My dad was at a restuarant, and was shocked when he heard that an airplane crashed. He thought this wasn't true but it turned out it was. My dad thinks many people have been effected by the attack, and actually knows one that used to work there and is still living. He is still living because his friend was running late, so he didn't get to his job on time, and since he didn't get to the building on time he saved his own life. After the attack my dad believes we have learned alot from this mistake and is happy that people have decided to put security, and strenghten our economy.

9/11 interview
I interveiwed my mom, Grandaddy, and my Nana about this topic. Andrea was just too small.

On 9/11 my family (Nana, Grandaddy, Andrea aka my sister, and my mom) were at an apple orchard in Spartanburg South Carolina.
The apple orchard was called Niven's Apple Farm. I remember at 2 years old going into a barn and getting apple cider. What i did not remember was very sad and disturbing.
The lady that had the apple cider said, " Someone has attacked the U.S" My mom thought she was crazy but we still left early. When we got home we watched TV. That was all
she could do. When she saw the people falling off of the building she cried. 9/11 has changed alot of how much people respect each other. I hope something like this will never happen because 9/11 has hurt and killed many innocent people that never deserved to be killed.

-Sidney S.

Interviewing my mother Cilla Laurence. My mother was in Liverpool during the attacks. My mother heard about it from the television almost immediately when it happened. She says “ how can humans kill other humans because it’s not right because they are humans too how will they feel if someone bombed an important landmark”. At that time she was coming from work in a subway in Liverpool. She says it doesn’t affect her perspective on planes because she loves traveling. When Osama bin laden died my mother didn’t feel good because he’s still human and in the bible it does say love your neighbors as yourself even pray for your enemies but there is always a consequence for your actions whether good or Bad.

I interviewed my mom about the attacks on 9/11/01. She was at home, taking care of me (who was 2) and my brother (who was a baby). When the first tower was attacked, she thought that it was just an accident. At the time, she said, the whole country was confused about what was happening. When the second tower was destroyed, she knew that it was not an accident. She was shocked by what had happened. But, she wasn’t able to see all of the footage, because of me and my baby brother. I saw part of the footage, but it was on mute. She had to turn it off, however, after she saw me jumping off the couch and asked what I was doing. I told her that I was jumping like the people on TV. My mom thinks that the 9/11 attacks changed the country because for the first time, since probably WWII, the U.S. felt vulnerable and threatened.

While I was interviewing my mom she told my all about her 9/11 experience. She was at sick, in bed at home and listening to the radio when she found out about the attacks. Initially she said," I was incredulous, and then I became shocked, sad, and surprised." She said that she had never expected something like this to happen and it has taught her a great lesson in life; to appreciate every moment and not take anything for granted. She felt disbelief, horror and compassion for the families and friends of those that lost their lives, although none of our close friends or relatives died. When I asked her about the 10th anniversary she commented that she thought it would be a day of remembrance, reflection, and a day to promote peace. She thought it would be a day about remembering what happened and those who lost their lives being brave enough to help. It is also about making sure this horrific event doesn't happen again. I also asked her how she thought the attacks affected our country and people. " I think that the experience has been very humbling for everyone and has made the country feel vulnerable like it hasn't felt before," she stated. " I believe that security has become a bigger priority, especially in air travel, and many people still grieve for the people that died that day.""We also have a greater admiration for our firefighters and law enforcement than we did before," she explained.
While I was interviewing my dad he told me about his 9/11 experience. He was at his old job in Cary and was in a meeting. When he found out he was stunned and disbelieving. He didn't think that anyone would conceive such a remorseless act of violence. He states that it was," a defining moment like when JFK was shot or when we landed on the moon." He stated that he had learned a very important lesson from that experience; to live everyday to the fullest and to make sure that your friends and family know that you love them.

I was interviewing my mom about the terrorists attacks. When she walked into her work building, one of her co-workers came in too and told my mom all about it. My mom was very upset, devastated, and shocked because she couldn't believe that anybody would do that. She said were all more careful now at airports and this attack brought us together. She said she is more safe on a plane because we have new safety rules. She is happy that Osama Bin Laden is dead because he killed alot of innocent people. About the 10th anniversary, my mom says that even though its the 10th, we should still remember what happened. She learned that you can't trust anybody.
-Emmet W.

i interviewed my mother, during this interview we spoke about the terrorist attacks on 9/11. My mother, my sister, and i were all in Denmark during the attack. my mother was watching the news and she thought steven speilburg was making a movie because she didn't understand danish, it wasn't until someone from the apartment complex had told her what was happening. my mother was concerned as soon as she found out because she had, had two friends in New York that worked right next to the world trades center. luckily my mothers friends decided not to go to work that day. later in life she has met so many people that have lost loved ones in the attack. she said she was affected by it because it taught her many lessons in life like, to not sweat the small stuff because before this she thought some little stuff was such a big deal. she said it changed her life in such a drastic way because we moved back to the USA because of the attack and also because it changed the government so it changed the way we lived. when anybody thinks of 9/11 they usually think terrorist attack but my mother thinks of change and the safer place it made us. in her opinion it affected our country in many ways first, airport security makes her feel safer because the baggage checks and you having to take off your shoes.i asked my mother if she agreed with the political steps taken after 9/11 to ensure our country's safety, she said yes because the government needed to change in order to move on from everything. she also said that our country's safety areas needed to be improved.

I interviewed my mom, Jen on the terrorist attacks of 9/11. When the attacks actually happened, she was in Disney world with my dad and me. I was only two at the time, so I don’t remember any of it. She found out while we were eating Mickey waffles at the wilderness lodge inn. There was a T.V set up in the dining room and at 8:30, a news flash came on. All they saw was the twin towers burning and the words “plane crashed into twin towers.” The first thing my mom felt was complete and utter disbelief. You see, the year before the terrorist attacks, she and my dad had gone to see the twin towers. The first thing she thought when she saw them up close was how big and powerful they looked. When the images of the towers burning flashed across the screen, she didn’t want to believe something so big and powerful could be destroyed so easily. After a moment or so, she was shocked and after that came anger. She was mad that someone would want to destroy something so important to others. For this reason as well, she was horrified. “I think after 9/11, people lost belief that we as Americans were safe. We also lost a lot of faith in our government that day. However, I do think that, after 9/11, people definitely felt strongly about America. Almost everywhere you went, you could see flags hanging. This really and truly brought people together.” my mom said about how the country changed. She actually did know some people in the attack, which made the event even harder for her to get over. The company she worked for at the time had an office in one of the towers at the time. Fortunately, they were all safely evacuated before the building collapsed. My mom feels that if Osama Bin Laden was really the mastermind behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he got much less than he deserved when he died. “Even so, the fact that he’s dead doesn’t mean we can just take back all that he’s done.” My mom says.

I interviewed my mom (Julie Robertson) on 9/11
She was at her old elementary school, Conn. She had been walking the track outside during her planning period because it was a beautiful day. A teacher yelled,''Mrs. Robertson, get inside!!!'' The school had been put on lockdown and, of course, she didn't know because she was outside. The school had had a bomb threat! They first thought the threat was outside and put the school was on lockdown. Then, they changed their minds and evacuated, thinking the threat was inside. No one knew what was going on nationwide. As they were walking kindergartners outside, a teacher told her,''The twin towers have fallen.'' My mom just could not wrap her head around that fact.''We were outside for an hour and a half while the bomb squad checked the building''. Finally, they were cleared to go inside the building and there was no bomb. The classes were taken to lunch. The assistant principal told Mom that a third plane had hit the Pentagon. Mom asked where the planes were from, and the assistant principal said they were commercial American planes. They couldn't figure out why American planes were destroying Americans. Mom said,''If the Pentagon was hit, none of us are safe.'' All she could think about was how in the world she could protect me.
~John Robertson

I intervied my mom, and found out how she reacted on September 11,2001. We lived in Raleigh at the time, and she was on her way to work. I was at pre-school. When she got to work her co-workers said she didn't have to work becuause of the news. They didn't know where the terrorist were going and what they were going to do. She had no clue of what had happened finally someone told and she could not believe what she was hearing. She rushed to the pre-school to get me. WAlwhen we got home she turned on the news and saw what had tragically happened. She said she felt very bad for the people who died trying to save others, people who lost loved ones, and the people who had to experince that. Thankfully no one died in our family, but my mom did have some friends in New York. They weren't hurt but still had to experince it. She said she thinks it brought the U.S. together and made us a stronger country. My parents always say love life and your family because you never know when you will have another chance.
~Alex H.

I interviewed my mom and she was at Greystone Baptist church at bible study when 9/11 happened. I was at bible study with her when 9/11 happened. She didn’t believe it was happening until she saw pictures on the news. She heard about al Qaida on the news before. She walked past the twin towers before but has never been in them. She knew they did it for religious reasons. She thinks he wanted to kill as many people as possible because he wanted the towers to fall on people. She wasn’t afraid they would attack North Carolina because most foreigners think about New York and California as the U.S.
Kyle J.

I interviewed my mom about 9/11. She said she was at home taking care of my brother and I. When she started watching the TV it switched to the news and showed the first plane crash into the first tower. At first she thought it was an accident and started to worry about the people on the plane and in the 1st Twin Tower. Then when the second plane went into the 2nd tower she knew that is wasn’t an accident. She said that she felt very upset that people had lost their lives because of the terrorist attacks. Also, she had felt upset because we had lost very special landmarks that day.
~Caitlin

I interviewed my mom on the 9/11 attacks. When the first plane hit the tower my mom and I were playing in our playroom. Then, my Godfather called and said to switch on the tv. while we were watching live footage, she said she remembered me saying,"why is the plane hitting the building, Mommy?"She says an instant result from the attack was a new sense of Patriatism. She is now fine with going on planes, but five to seven years ago she would have been more scared. My last question was did it teach you a lesson in life. Her answer was yes, it taught me life is short, so enjoy every moment of it with the ones you love. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
~Grafton

I interviewed my dad, he was standing in line at Daylight Donuts and he saw it on tv. at first he thought it was just a building burning, then he found out that a plane ran into it by the time he got home (on his day off) and it had fallen down.
~Lukas~

I interveiwed my mom. She was at our townhouse folding laundry in her room with me. She said she was scared, shocked, and sad. She said right after the first plane hit her mom (my grandma) called and told my mom to turn on the tv immediatley. Then she called my dad and told him about what was happening. She said the attack on our freedom is an important reminder that we livein a world where there are diffrences and that there are some who choose to fight because of them rather than accepting them and living with them. Its also an important reminder that we live in a country that is governed my the people for the people and its our people that make us strong. Our country belives in freedom and that, above all is worth protecting.
~Morgan B:)))~

I interviewed my mother. She was at work on her computer doing documents. She had checked WRAL, she saw where it had said the world trade center is burning down and she had called my grandmother and was like mom bad news the world trade center has been knocked down. She said most of all her heart was broken and at the moment she was shocked and scared. She said today now we have updated secruity at our airports and alot of military members. You will never no what will happen these days she said, but just always know this day will never be forgotten. Her last words were May God Bless America!

the twin towers. My mom started to freak out so we got back in the car and went to my grandmas house. She turn on the t.v. and flipped the channel it on the news. She was very

worried because she thought they might attack here next but that was unlikely to happen.
